Women's Hockey Records Sweep After 3-0 Win Against Buffalo State

Kendra LemireThe Oswego State women's hockey team registered its first series sweep of the season by defeating Buffalo State 3-0 on its home ice on Sunday afternoon. Senior Kendra Lemire (Falher, Alberta) proved the bulk of the scoring punch for the Lakers as she tallied two goals in the second period. Oswego State goaltender Emi Williams (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) recorded her first shutout of the season by posting 21 saves. The Lakers improved to 4-3-0 overall and 3-3-0 in ECAC West competition, while the Bengals dropped to 2-5-0 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Cold Shooting Hurts Women's Basketball In 60-53 Loss To Roberts Wesleyan

Colleen McCreadyThe Oswego State women's basketball team struggled offensively in the second half as it shot 17.6 percent from the floor on 6-of-34 shooting as the Lakers fell to Roberts Wesleyan 60-53 in the championship game of the Max Ziel Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Oswego. The Raiders held Oswego State to nine points in the final 11:26 of the game, while Roberts Wesleyan scored eight of the contest's last 11 points. Brittany McMillon, who was selected as the tournament MVP, paced the Raiders with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Kayla Ryan (So., Schaghticoke, N.Y.) and Rachel Kohrs (Sr., New Lebanon, N.Y.) recorded 10 points apiece for the Lakers.

Oswego State Grapplers Place 12th At Doug Parker Invitational

Chris PayneThe Oswego State wrestling team scored 52.5 points to finish in 12th place out of 18 teams at the 20th Annual Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. The Lakers were led by sophomores Chris Payne (Farmington, N.Y.) and Blake Fisher (Seaford, N.Y.), who earned fifth place in their respective weight classes.

Laganiere’s Hat Trick Helps Men’s Ice Hockey Defeat Morrisville 8-1

Chris LaganiereJunior Chris Laganiere (Owego, N.Y.) registered three goals during a two-period offensive burst as the second-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team defeated Morrisville 8-1 on Saturday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The Mustangs held a 1-0 lead after the first period, but the Lakers scored the next eight goals to cruise to the victory. Oswego State improved to 8-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in the SUNYAC, while Morrisville dropped to 3-5-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the league.

Quick Start Propels Men’s Basketball Past Medgar Evers 80-54 In Max Ziel Championship

Conor MonaghanAfter opening the game with a 16-0 run, the Oswego State men’s basketball team never looked back en route to winning the Max Ziel Tournament Championship game 80-54 against Medgar Evers on Saturday afternoon in Oswego. The Laker defense held the Cougar offense to 5-for-30 shooting in the first half as they established a 43-20 halftime lead. Oswego State improved to 2-1 on the season, while Medgar Evers dropped to 1-2 overall.

Late Goal Lifts Women's Hockey Past Buffalo State 3-2

Jillian BergeronSophomore Jillian Bergeron (Brockville, Ont.) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:46 remaining to give the Oswego State women's hockey team a 3-2 victory over Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon in Oswego. Laker goaltender Emi Williams (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) turned in a strong performance between the pipes as she compiled 35 saves on 37 shots. Oswego State improved to 3-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play, while the Bengals fell to 2-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in ECAC West competition.

Swimming and Diving Posts Wins Over Brockport

Shawn MerlinThe Oswego State swimming and diving programs put another win on the books as they defeated the College of Brockport in Oswego on Saturday afternoon. The Laker women defeated the Brockport by a score of 137-106, while the Laker men outscored their opponents by a score of 157-126 in the dual meet.

Men's Basketball Overcomes Turnovers To Defeat NJ City University 69-65

Ryan SheridanThe Oswego State men's basketball team dominated the glass to persevere through 34 turnovers as it defeated New Jersey City University 69-65 in the first round of the Max Ziel Tournament on Friday night in Oswego. The Lakers out-rebounded the Gothic Knights 44-19 and shot 50 percent from the field on 25-for-50 to came away with their first win of the season. Chad Burridge (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while teammate Hayden Ward (Fr., Montauk, N.Y.) corralled 17 rebounds.
